TELL THE STORY OF JESUS & PETER WALKING ON THE WATER IN MATTHEW 14

Imagine it, you’re on a boat in the middle of a raging sea, your boat is taking on water, you’re already scared & thinking you’re going to die & then you see someone walking on the water! It’s a ghost! That’s exactly what the disciples thought & they were so terrified that they started screaming. The same men who have been with Jesus day & night & have performed miracles & cast out demons were now terrified of a storm & what they thought to be a ghost. It wasn’t a spirit, it was Jesus & he told them to cheer up & stop being afraid. Peter was the only one who stepped out in faith, but not before he asked & Jesus told him to, which is a good thing because we always have to make sure our actions line up with God’s word. Stepping out on to the crashing waves, Peter looked at Jesus & got closer to him with each step but then Peter started to look at the waves crashing around him & he felt the wind gusting & he must have had a million thoughts running through his mind telling him this was crazy & he was about to drown or die or both. Peter began to sink. Once Peter took his eyes off of Jesus & started looking at the storm instead of Jesus, he started believing every doubtful & fearful thought until he almost drowned. Peter cried out for Jesus to save him & of course Jesus did. Jesus reached down & rescued him while telling Peter that he didn’t have enough faith & he had too much doubt. Peter learned a valuable lesson & taught us one too. We have to keep our eyes on Jesus without doubting or being fearful, always trusting in God’s promises. We can’t let negative thoughts creep in telling us that we can’t. We know God can & we have to keep believing that God will do for us what he said he would. Faith isn’t believing God can; faith is knowing God will. God will always keep his word.
